To begin crafting your own re-telling of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," answer the following questions on a piece of paper or a shared Google doc:
1. What are some of your favorite real-life places and/or what real-life places do you know best?
2. What makes those real-life places stand out in your mind?
3. What type of people live in those real-life places? Describe them
4. What are some of your favorite historical or fictional settings?
5. What makes those historical or fictional settings stand out in your mind?
6. What would be the most unique time/place to set a Shakespeare play?
7. What's your preference and why?
urban vs. rural location
real vs. fictional location
Earth vs. alternate Earth vs. not Earth at all
a setting you know vs. a setting you'd need to research
small scale vs. large scale location (a house vs. an entire country, for example)
See if you can answer these questions about Beatrice and Benedick. If you can't, make up the answers you think the two characters would give:
1. What would the characters consider his/her greatest achievement?
2. What would his/her idea of perfect happiness be?
3. As Don Pedro and his men arrive at Leonato's house, what is Beatrice/Benedick's state of mind?
4. What is his/her favorite occupation? (Not job — how they spend their time)
5. When and where were the two characters happiest?
6. What is it that he/she most dislikes?
7. What is his/her greatest fear?
8. Which living person does he/she despise most?
9. What is the quality he/she likes most in the opposite sex?
10. Why do Beatrice and Benedick hate each other so much?
